I truly did not enjoy the book to the extent of many of my classmates. I am sure that for a sixth or seventh grader that the story and the issues and the overwhelming amount of teen angst would be interesting, but how the story was presented for an audience in an English class of juniors. It left me feeling, sadly, dumbed down. I love sci-fi, but the issues presented seemed too much like realistic fiction rather than sci-fi. Maybe if there was more war, death, science, and more grown up issues I would be able to recommend this book, but over all I disliked it.
The slogan, again, didn't help with the overall presentation. Maybe if it was along the lines of "What Tweens are Reading" (audience of 10-14 year olds), not 16 and 17 year olds. The print was tacky and the covers on the book were dreadful. I know that you aren't supposed to judge a book by the cover, but I was looking and I was judging.
There are so many other interesting, more engaging books than Ender's Game. Next time, maybe if the book is presented to a class, make sure that it is for the right grade.
But, on a lighter note, the video game night was fun, and being on the radio was fun too. Thank you for those oppertunities!
